PNCA Galleries

The Philip Feldman Gallery and Project Space
The College’s main exhibition space is the Philip Feldman Gallery and Project Space. The Gallery brings nationally and internationally known artists and their work to PNCA. As a teaching gallery, it has been established to support the school’s curriculum and as a point of interaction with the community. The Feldman Gallery Director and Curator is Nan Curtis, who is also a faculty member and chair of the Sculpture department. ().
The Philip Feldman Gallery serves a important role in Portland's artistic community as PNCA is the only academic institution in a district characterized by its galleries and artists' studios. PNCA is part of a creative environment, bringing an important academic dimension to the art of the neighborhood. PNCA faculty and students have, historically, been the foundation of the visual arts in Portland, having profoundly affected the cultural life of the city for generations. The Feldman Gallery and Project Space continues that tradition. As a teaching gallery, there is also an internship program for students to help with all facets of gallery management, from curating to installation of the exhibit.
The gallery program encourages artists to lecture, critique or participate in studio visits and workshops with the students. Their visit culminates with a Gallery Talk open to the public and a First Thursday opening. This program is intended to bring new perspectives and resources to PNCA's students and faculty and to the larger community. The Gallery participates in the monthly Portland art walk known as First Thursday and in 2002 the weekly alternative paper, Willamette Week, named the Feldman Gallery, "People's Choice Best 2002 First Thursday Stop". PNCA is the only major visual arts institution where all exhibitions are free and open to the public seven days a week.
Student Galleries
Along with the many opportunities that students have to exhibit their art in the College's many informal campus spaces, student have the opportunity to show their work in month long exhibitions in the BFA student gallery adjacent to the Feldman as well as in the smaller Higgins Gallery. Students who show in these two galleries participate in the First Thursday openings.
Manuel Izquierdo Gallery
The Manuel Izquierdo Gallery is located in PNCA's 3-D Studios and exhibits the works of local sculptors, installation and video artists, as well as work by students and alumni of the sculpture department. The gallery, named in honor of professor emeritus Manuel Izquierdo, strives to promote contemporary three-dimensional work by local artists and to educate the community on trends in sculptural work.
