smArtworks Summer Day Camps

Dates: July 6-31, 2009
Creative Explorations
With art as a vehicle for exploration, students will travel to different countries and eras to investigate people, places, cultures and communities. With professional artists and teachers as their guides, students will reflect on their journeys through artistic creations.
Each week we will focus on a different part of the world!
JULY 6-10: THE AMERICAS
JULY 13-17: AFRICA
JULY 20-24: EUROPE
JULY 27-31: ASIA AND OCEANIA
Divided into two, the days are organized around different artistic mediums. Students will start their day with a focus on sculpture projects and after lunch the afternoon’s session concentrates on drawing, painting and printmaking.
Mornings: sculpture projects
Students explore three-dimensional forms as artistic responses to the weekly themes. Projects encourage students to consider basic art fundamentals of color, form, texture and rhythm to strengthen their processes and vocabulary. Instructors provide supportive guidance of materials and topics tailored to the artistic developmental needs for each age group. Mediums include clay, papier mache, assemblage, weaving, batik and found object sculptures.
Afternoons: drawing, painting, printmaking
Students investigate weekly themes through drawing, painting and printmaking, while incorporating basic art fundamentals such as line, shape, form, color mixing and composition. Instructors provide supportive guidance through techniques and topics tailored to the artistic developmental needs for each age group. Mediums include graphite, charcoal, tempera, watercolors, ink, acrylic, collage, block printing and collagraphs.
