Professional Practices

PNCA Continuing Education offers two concentrations in Professional Practices and Development: Web Design and Illustration. These courses can be taken in sequence, as individual courses or as part of the Graphic Design Certificate.

Web Design

The Web Design Cluster is designed for people seeking training in professional web communications practices, web technologies, and industry standards. The program offers particular opportunities in web design, web graphics and content design. Participants come from a broad spectrum of professional and academic backgrounds.

Outcomes

understanding of website development techniques and related technologies
proficiency in HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, and Flash & ActionScript
authoring for mobile web and iPhone
proficiency in user interface and user experience design

Illustration

The Illustration Cluster is designed for people seeking training in work practices and career opportunities in the illustration marketplace and employ effective self-promotion and
portfolio strategies to further their career and personal ambitions.

Outcomes

Understand the purpose and role of illustration in relation to historical and contemporary markets
Understand the role of the illustrator in relation to social issues and developments.
Create original artwork that is visually compelling and reflects a developed personal style
Recognize and understand current illustration trends, markets, and media developments as well as historical illustration forms and outlets
Articulate, present, and critique illustration concepts and solutions with clients and colleagues using illustration terminology
