Continuing Education at PNCA

Our Continuing Education program engages the community — from children discovering art for the first time to individuals seeking a career in the visual arts and all those in between.

Summer 2009 brings several special programs to PNCA Continuing Education:

Summer of Making explores the confluence of art, design and craft practices and fosters a community of makers

Boundary Crossings a two-week innovative institute exploring the emerging field of animated arts and

Intensive Painting Workshops where students can work with new mediums, refine their painting skills and explore new visual languages.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM serves individuals seeking professional development for careers in the creative services industries and for those developing a committed studio practice. The program is designed for creative individuals, who hold a higher education degree and have professional experience which can, but need not be, related to studio arts or design.

The YOUTH PROGRAM has a curriculum based on the developmental stages of childhood. Faculty are practicing artists committed to providing children and youth a nurturing, supportive and enriching experience.

The OUTREACH PROGRAM is an after-school arts initiative collaboration between PNCA and selected elementary, middle and high schools in the Portland Public School District. Using studio arts instruction methods, professional artists-educators work to develop each student’s artistic skills. Outcomes include increased self-esteem, peer recognition and improved school attendance as well as enhanced visual literacy skills. The program potentially leads to scholarship opportunities in PNCA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program.

The PRE-COLLEGE SUMMER STUDIOS is for serious high school students dedicated to expanding their art training, develop a portfolio, and experience a professional art college environment.
