Garth Clark Lecture

New York gallery owner, curator and historian Garth Clark presents the 2008 Jamison lecture, “How Envy Killed the Crafts Movement: An Autopsy in Two Parts” in Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Swigert Commons on Thursday, October 16 at 6:30 pm.

In this two-part program, Clark will analyze the current state of American Craft, then invite the audience to join him in an examination of how aesthetics, economics and art-envy have “killed” this 20th Century movement. One of craft’s most influential intellectuals, this is a special opportunity to hear and discuss Clark’s provocative ideas.

As a local gallery owner and patron of the arts, William Jamison made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of our region. The Jamison Lecture series was initiated in his honor, to encourage critical and provocative discussions on art and the nature of our visual culture.

The lecture is free and open to the public and is co-presented by Museum of Contemporary Craft, Oregon College of Art & Craft and Pacific Northwest College of Art.
