$1 Million Endowment Created to Fund Scholarship Program

PNCA was thrilled to announce early Monday morning the gift of a $1 million endowment by Ed Cauduro, art advocate and nationally known collector of contemporary art, to fund a new scholarship program at the College. The Ed Cauduro Fund for Pacific Northwest College of Art of The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) will provide up to four $10,000 annual scholarships, beginning with two scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year and one in each of the following two years. The endowment will also provide approximately $5,000 annually for students to use in purchasing art supplies and materials they would otherwise be unable to afford.

The Oregonian said of Cauduro, “[He] may not be well-known to many recent transplants to Portland. But in the 1970s and ’80s, the native Oregonian was the city’s most astute art collector, an example of the type of collector Portland has not had often enough.”

Cauduro’s generous gift comes at a key time for the College, as it continues to expand as the fastest growing art school in the country. President Tom Manley told The Oregonian, “Obviously, we’re spending a lot of time right now on expansion and other things. But ultimately, if we don’t take care of our students, then we really don’t have a school.”
