Podcast: Will Weigler Interview
Award-winning author of the book Strategies for Playbuilding: Helping Groups Translate Issues into Theatre, Weigler joined PNCA Instructor Anne Marie Oliver in the Radio PNCA studio for a thoughtful discussion covering; the history of theatre, the role of interactive theatre in culture and the philosophy behind applied theatre.
Born and raised in Portland, Weigler has been involved for many years in “applied theatre” — theatre that is applied to the needs of a community. While in Oregon, Weigler co-founded and directed Young Actors’ Forum, a theatre company dedicated to giving culturally and economically diverse groups of children and teenagers an opportunity to create and perform their own plays about the issues that matter to them.
Anne Marie Oliver is a writer, photographer and documentarist whose work explores the intersection of art, religion and politics. She teaches in PNCA’s Intermedia Department. She has appeared on radio and television shows in the U.S. and abroad, including: CNN, C-SPAN, National Public Radio, the BBC, MSNBC, Air America and Fresh Air with Terry Gross as well as in print media.
