Creative minds gather in New York for first mobile PNCA+FIVE Idea Studio

Generating from PNCA+FIVE Idea Studios, a series of movable public conversations, lectures and performances exploring the creative life and the importance of creativity in fostering civic imagination and collaboration, Creative Practice/Public Collaboration will converge artists, editors, thinkers and the larger creative community on the role of collaboration in artistic practice.
In eliciting participation in their creative process, artists are encouraging others to respond with imagination. How does this alter our collective ability to envision the new or re-envision the old and then possibly inspire us to act or respond differently?
Participants will discuss this question and the balance and tension between autonomous creative activity and conscious collaboration. PNCA president Tom Manley; Barbara MacAdam, Deputy Editor, ARTNews ; Trisha Brown, choreographer/artistic director; Brad Cloepfil, founder, Allied Works Architecture ; M K Guth, Whitney Biennial Artist and Chair of PNCA’s MFA program, and Susan Seubert, PNCA ‘92, photographer are all slated participants.
The Ford Institute for Visual Education (FIVE) was established in May 2007 with a generous gift from Hallie Ford. FIVE extends PNCA’s intellectual and resource platform through exhibitions, symposia, internationally renowned artists in residence and other programs that enrich the environment for original thinking and creative enterprise.
PNCA+FIVE Idea Studios is a series of movable public conversations, lectures and performances exploring the creative life and the importance of creativity in fostering civic imagination and collaboration. The series launched on February 16 with inaugural speaker, internationally acclaimed light and space artist James Turrell, with a public lecture in PNCA’s Swigert Commons. Influential French philosopher Jacques Rancière discussed “What Makes Images Unacceptable” in a lecture at PNCA on February 29.
