James Turrell lecture tomorrow

Internationally recognized light and space artist James Turrell — creator of striking works that play with perception and the effect of light — launches PNCA + FIVE’s Idea Studios series in a lecture Saturday, February 16 in the PNCA Swigert Commons.

Turrell currently resides in Flagstaff, Arizona, in order to oversee the completion of his most important work, Roden Crater, a monumental land art project in an extinct volcano the artist has been transforming into a celestial observatory for the past 30 years. Turrell’s work, spanning three decades, can be found in exhibitions and collections worldwide including the Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Panza di Biumo Collection, Varese, Italy.

Idea Studios is an ongoing and portable series of conversations, lectures and performances on the inner workings of creative practice. The series features internationally acclaimed practitioners from a range of fields and cultures as part of a broader PNCA + FIVE effort to highlight the importance of creativity in fostering innovation and civic imagination.

Due to an overwhelming response, we are no longer accepting reservations for this lecture. PNCA thanks the community for their understanding. There will be limited spaces for standing-room-only guests at the lecture. These spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the event.

IMPORTANT IDEA STUDIOS SEATING POLICY:
Reserved seating-holders must be SEATED 10 minutes prior to the event’s scheduled start time. Ten minutes before the lecture begins vacant seats will be made available to the general public until capacity is reached. Doors for the February 16th event will open at 3pm.
