Point of Purchase

PNCA Artist in Residence Nathaniel Shapiro’s Point of Purchase reinterprets the languages of product design and retail display to examine the manipulations inherent in the marketing of commodity objects. His work addresses the conception of counter-cultural signifiers, the marketing of disposable technology, and the manufactured desire to forge individual identity through the consumption of goods. Point of Purchase is informed by the tension between enculturated consumer desire and a sense of greater social responsibility.
