Keep It Slick: Infiltrating Capitalism with The Yes Men
Curated by Astria Suparak
This is the first major exhibition of the artist-activist group the Yes Men. Through impersonating representatives from big corporations and government organizations such as ExxonMobil, The World Trade Organization, McDonald’s, Halliburton, Dow Chemical, and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, these culture-jamming activists have exposed dehumanizing business practices and enacted ethical “identity correction” since 1999. The Yes Men’s sociopolitical pranks at conferences, on television and on the web have been widely publicized, but never exhibited on this scale. In KEEP IT SLICK, the elaborate costumes, slapstick videos, outrageous posters and props will be exhibited alongside new works produced for this exhibition. The Yes Men will conduct a workshop imparting practical knowledge, with preview clips from their new feature length film to be released this fall, The Yes Men Fix the World. A full color catalogue and artist multiples will be available for purchase. After the premiere of this exhibition at PNCA, KEEP IT SLICK will tour to CMU and other venues nationally. This exhibition is co-produced by the Feldman Gallery at Pacific Northwest College of the Arts and the Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University, and is part of PICA’s TBA:08.
The Yes Men is part of PNCA’s 2007/08 Exhibition Series: Cultures in Conflict: The Redress of Art & Design. PNCA thanks the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and the Oregon Arts Commission for their generous support of Cultures in Conflict.

Furnishings
Furnishings explores the context in which functional objects can be developed and displayed. The works in this show have been created in a highly individualistic and sculptural manner so that the finished products function both as furnishings and as objects to be aesthetically admired. Yothin Amnuayphol, Amanda Wall-Graff, Derek Faust, and Craig McIntosh have blurred the distinction between the use of home furnishings for their function and the admiration of furnishings as sculpture.

Scott Fuentes '91
Memorial Exhibition in the Printmaking Gallery
In connection with Alumni Weekend, a memorial exhibition of work by PNCA alumnus Scott Fuentes ’91 will be on display in the Printmaking Gallery from October 3 – 10.Born in 1964, Scott began his artistic career at PNCA where he developed his passion for printmaking.Christy Wyckoff, one of his instructors, remembers Scott as one who always looked for ways to extend the possibilities of printmaking, especially screen printing. “That search for the limits led him to his thesis, a series of screenprinted cast acrylic panels,” Wyckoff recalls.“He found his greatest excitement in the art of printmaking,” said his parents Linda and Raul Fuentes, “Printmaking became a huge benefit as he advanced to the world of logo design, graphic design and other areas of printed materials.” After graduation, Scott worked as a designer for Dark Horse Comics and Columbia Sportswear, where he worked for the last 11 years. Sadly, Scott died in a single car accident on August 17, 2007. He is survived by his two children, Trevor and Dustin. This exhibition of Scott’s work was selected from his family’s collection and includes screenprints from his time at PNCA as well as some of his more recent work.

Suddenly
Moderated by Matthew Stadler
PNCA sponsors Suddenly, an exploration by writer Matthew Stadler into landscape, identity and imagination. The panel discussion is based on the ongoing set of visual art exhibitions, a reader, and a series of public programs beginning this fall in Portland, Oregon. The discussion is an extension of PNCA’s previous Idea Studio Collective Leadership.Seeking new descriptions that give the landscape where we live an independent identity in the imagination of its occupants, Suddenly proposes new language to displace “the city” and “the countryside” as the subject of our hopes and our struggles—the subject of our politics.Suddenly is borne of urban planner Thomas Sieverts’s astonishing observation that ‘”the shaping of the landscape where we live can no longer be achieved by the traditional resources of town planning, urban design, and architecture. New ways must be explored, which are as yet unclear.”
Suddenly panelists: Thomas Sieverts, Brad Cloepfil, and Reed Kroloff. Moderated by Matthew Stadler.
Please note change in time.
