Troca: USA
Artist Talk
This January, PNCA sent students, faculty, and selected Portland artists to Brazil for an international art exchange following the 2005 exhibition here of A Gentil Carioca in TROCA Brasil. Introducing the idea of artists as goodwill ambassadors, the two galleries initiated an international exchange of artwork, artists and dialogue that culminated in an exhibition, TROCA America, “The American Dream?” at A Gentil Carioca.
Curator Nan Curtis shares the root ideas for
the exchanges that produced Troca: USA while
Portland artists Bruce Conkle, David Eckard,
Emily Ginsburg, MK Guth, Don Olsen and Tamsie
Ringler talk about their perceptions of the
exhibition and their work as well as their
experience in Rio de Janeiro and interaction
with the Brazilian culture.
