Scholarships

Pacific Northwest College of Art awards merit-based MFA scholarships. All students accepted to the MFA in Visual Studies Program will be considered for the MFA merit based scholarships. Recipients of merit based scholarships are selected by the Graduate Committee composed of PNCA faculty and the MFA Chair. Individual merit scholarships range from $2,000 to $15,000 per year.

Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loans

Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans are based on a student's demonstrated financial need as determined from the information provided on the FAFSA application. Graduate students are eligible to borrow as much as $8,500 per academic year in subsidized loan funding. The interest rate on subsidized Stafford Loan funding is fixed at 6.8% and is subject to a fee of .5% off the principal at the time of disbursement (standard 1% loan fee minus .5% fee rebate).

While a student is enrolled in school, and for a six-month grace period after leaving school, no payments on the loan are due, and the federal government pays all accruing interest on the loans.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans

Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are available to graduate students who do not show enough demonstrated need to borrow their "base eligibility" under the Federal Stafford Loan Program. Graduate students are eligible to borrow up to $12,000 per academic year in addition to their base eligibility of $8,500. Total Federal Stafford loan eligibility is $20,500 during the 10/11 academic year.

Interest on the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan begins to accrue from the date of disbursement. The interest rate is fixed at 6.8% and is subject to a fee of .5% off the principal at the time of disbursement (standard 1% loan fee minus .5% fee rebate).

While a student is enrolled in school, and for a six-month grace period after leaving school, no payments on the loan are due.

Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loans

Federal Graduate Plus Loans are credit qualified funding available to graduate students. Applicants must file a FAFSA. Students are eligible to defer repayment until six months after graduation. The interest rate on Graduate Plus Loans is fixed at 7.9% and is subject to a fee of 2.5% off the principal at the time of disbursement (standard 4% loan fee minus 1.5% fee rebate). Graduate students may borrow up to the full cost of attendance minus any other financial aid.
